P.B.& J. (The Paige and Blake Journey)

Alright friends - I need some advice here. The time has come for Dallas to buy a newer vehical. For a few reasons.

1. We can't fit an infant carseat in my car with Paige's 3 in 1. Yes, I could buy a new infant carrier.

2. My back is starting to suffer the effects of lifting a toddler in and out of the car. I realize that I will soon be lifting an infant carrier in and out of the car too.

3. My car is a '94, has NO options, and 215,000 km. Yes, it will do for a while, but it would be nice to get something a little more "updated".

So here is my problem. I was thinking that we'd should get a mini-van. Practical, spacious, will give the family lots of room to grow. But in my brain, I know realistically we only need seating for 4. If we require more seats that this in the future, I can buy a bigger vehical right? I just can't rationalize purchasing a large gas guzzling vehical just because we'd use all the seats a few times a year. Not only will I be paying more for the vehical, I will also have to pay lots more on gas. So why not just by a bigger sized car or a smaller sized SUV?? A car would not solve problem #2 above. A smaller sized SUV does not have much cargo space - but really, how much cargo space do I really need?

Please, imput is appreciated, I am soooo torn.

(P.S. I am also posting this on LP, the more advice I can get, the better!)

  • hmmmm....maybe try renting the types of vehicles you are considering and see how they might work for your lifestyle.

  • Yay new car! Good for you guys! Well...I think you might already know my take on this dilemma...for as much as I don't see myself as a mini-van driver my work caravan is soooo convenient. I know you only really need room for 4, but think of some of example situations in your life that might pop up - and how much room you will need. Like...grocery shopping: you will need room for you, D, P, baby W, stroller(s), diaper bags, groceries. Will an SUV accomodate this? I know with S&T's Outlander there is JUST enough room for all of the above. If you had a stow & go you could just flip those back seats down for a ton more room. What if you are taking an extra kid for the day? Or picking up your neice & nephew B&B...that pops the # of required seating up to minimum 5 right? Ok...sorry - not trying to talk you into anything sista...I can't say I'd know what to do either...a van seems practical - but when you go back to work you would be driving a big vehicle with just one of you in it...unless you buy a van, sell the truck and keep the toyota?? Lol...now I am just making things more complicated huh? At any rate - have fun vehicle shopping! love ya. e.

  • Derek says get a long car. Then he said he got confused listening to me talk about it. "Get a van. But, if you don't want a van, get a Toyota Prius."

Hmm. How's that for a mansolution? I thought you ladies could use a laugh. :)

  • Buahahahah! Ah men...good times. Scott also was little help...he seems to think that a mini-van would be the answer - unless you decide to have a third child...in which case he thinks you will need a passanger van...LOL! I think he envisions you and Darren driving your three kids and ALL their friends everywhere in the future...thanks for the help boys!
