Kids these days!!

Yesterday as I was sitting on the cold bleachers at Ft. High, I realized that the more things change, the more things stay the same. There was this group of girls, dressed up with nice hair and tons of make-up. They arrived late to the football game. Surely they were there to catch the eye of some young, unsuspecting football player...then it began to rain. They got drenched! Goodbye nice hairdo, see-ya make-up. They then all looked a bit like drowned rats...bubbling still about going to "Timmy-Ho's" after the game to warm up. It dawned on me...how similar I was to that group of girls. I can remember not that long ago, I would spend hours contemplating on what I was going to wear, how I was going to do my hair, and if I should add mascara to my eyelashes to catch the attention of some Bison runningback, #22 to be exact.

I eventually went on a date with that football player, and we have been together for 10 years. Our first date was after the first season's game against. Ft. Sask in 1995. It's funny now, because my husband says that I wore too much makeup back then, but didn't even remember what I was wearing or how I styled my hair. And we never called Tim Horton's "Timmy Ho's" we called it "Tim's". Yes, things do change, but essentially they stay the same.

  • Nicely written Dallas. I really enjoyed reading your post! You're on your way to becoming a novelist!

I can't relate to trying to catch the eye of some football player or hockey player...well maybe just a bounce/cement finisher who deserved a chance.

  • Keltie - what does a "bounce/cement finisher" do? Just bounce around until he's finished? Or does he smell like fabric softener until he's finished?

    LOL I'm silly tonight.
