Advice for new couples:

1. Do NOT ever attempt to put together a new Ikea bed frame on the hottest night of the year. There will be severe backlash from all parties involved despite best intentions.

2. Keep your spouse well hydrated on such hot days.

3. Keep your spouse well fed on such hot days. Lack of food and water can highten one's ability to squabble over insignificant details.

4. Should you be allowing your toddler to assist in the "putting the bed together process" , under no circumstances should you trust her to really "give" pieces to Daddy. Not following rule #4 verbatim will result in a top to bottom bedroom search of a small black screwy thingy that goes in some hole. No, Ikea does NOT give you extra ones in the pack.

5. Remember, always, to reward your sigificant other with sexual favors on the night of such a "bed-putting-together" event.

There you have it. A true recipe for a happy marriage.

  • I think for a nominal fee, you can get the folks from Ikea to come out and assemble the furniture for you.

But yep - furniture assembling would definitely be one of those relationship tests. I think it is right up there with moving!

  • I don't think the Ikea service includes anything from selection number 5 though...

  • Oh you still have to do selection number 5 - if not just to make sure the assembly was done correctly!
